Kent decided to recreate the Ed Ruscha Monument in 2015, 9 years after his original Monument was illegally painted out. This had caused a huge uproar in the Arts community. When Kent starts a mural project he photographs the subject for reference, hand draws many studies of various parts of the mural for detail, has a model of the building made, hand draws the entire mural using graphite, hand mixes all of the paints (one color can have up to 20 values), then finally he hand paints the mural in his studio on 3 ft x 4 ft polytab fabric using numbers 4, 5 and 6 brushes, mostly sable rounds.
We are excited to update you with his progress. Kent has finished hand drawing the entire mural, all of the paints have been mixed (tested, and approved), the head has been painted, the hands are near completion, and we are now ready to start settng dates for the installation. Here are some photos to show the progression of where we are today with the most detailed mural of Kent's career.
